Wax-resin is the middle grade and the right answer more often than people expect. The Inkanto AXR 7 gives you print that survives rubbing, moisture and light chemical contact on coated paper and many synthetic stocks, at a fraction of the cost of full resin. Use it for product labels that sit on a shelf, cold and damp environments, and any barcode that has to scan after handling.
